Honest Weight relies on Member-Owners to help run our store in a variety of ways, and only people who have purchased an ownership interest at HWFC are eligible to invest time as Member-Owners. Here is a list of current needs, sorted by department. Please keep in mind your discount commitment needs when inquiring about assignments.

Cheese & Specialty Foods

Food Service 
  • Thank you for your interest in contributing your member hours in our Food Service Department! We're excited to welcome new Member-Owners into the kitchen, bakery, café, and Empire State Plaza operations that help feed our community every day. We’re currently seeking weekly commitments with a fixed schedule. This consistency helps us make the best use of our limited workspace and maintain smooth operations. When reaching out, please include:
  • The section(s) of Food Service you're most interested in (see below).
  • Your weekly availability -- days and times you could commit to on a regular basis.
  • Please note that Food Service Member-Owner placements are based on department needs and schedule availability. While we appreciate every offer of help, placement is not guaranteed if there isn’t a time that matches our current openings.

Front of House
  • Support our deli and café team with:
  • Packaging and labeling prepared foods
  • Light food prep (slicing, dressing prep)
  • Sandwich and salad making for grab-and-go
Bakery
  • Work with our bakery crew to:
  • Clean and restock bakery display cases
  • Tray and package baked goods
  • Cut and portion baked bars
Sampling
  • Help customers discover new favorites by:
  • Offering samples of featured items
  • Sharing product details and allergen information
  • Creating a welcoming experience for shoppers
Empire State Plaza (ESP Café)
  • Support our satellite location with:
  • Serving customers and handling light prep
  • Assisting as cashier
  • Helping maintain a clean and efficient café environment

Front End Immediate Needs in Front End
  • Weekly Cashiers: Seeking new Member-Owners to invest time cashiering. Running register is fast-paced, 100% customer facing, and we have so much fun in the Front End! Weekly shift required, for proficiency. Lots of shifts available to fill, including weekdays, weekends, daytime and evening. Contact Morgaen to learn more and schedule a first shift!
  • Parking Lot: Seeking Member-Owners who love being outside, helping customers unload their groceries, and help keep our shopping cart supply for incoming shoppers. Weekly shifts available, especially on weekends, contact Morgaen to learn more and schedule a first shift!
  • Courtesy Clerks: Immediate needs for friendly and helpful Member-Owners who can help us bag groceries, assist customers at checkout with any extra needs, help shoppers out their car when needed, and generally keep the Front End super tidy and running smoothly. Weekend help especially needed, monthly and weekly shifts available, contact Morgaen to learn more and schedule a first shift!

Grocery 
  • Monthly and Weekly slots available for stocking, conditioning, organizing, auditing, cleaning, and clerical help. All time slots are available. Some specifics are: Refrigerated stockers needed! Morning hours are best, 8 am - 12 pm weekly would make you a grocery superstar. Each week you could be the MO who makes sure shoppers get the full array of yogurts and milks that we offer. We provides gloves.
  • “Grab-and-Go” beverage section: flexible shifts Tuesday-Sunday
  • Tea stockers: Tuesday-Sunday
  • Sale sign and sign audit helpers: Come in before the sale to organize the signs, this is flexible for day(s) and time(s). We also need help Tuesday mornings of sale change days to put the signs up. Once signs are up, we need someone Tuesday afternoon/evening and/or Wednesday early morning to do the sign audit - use the sheets printed to verify signs are up and have correct prices.

Maintenance and Grounds Support Immediate Needs
Marketing Department and the Coop Scoop Magazine 
  • Member-Owners to help with ongoing shelf maintenance (things like cutting and laminating signs, updating local signs, sale signs, co-op basics, shelf tag holders, etc…)
  • Member-Owners to help get the word out about Double Up Food Bucks (SNAP incentive) program:
      • Those who are multilingual (especially Spanish-speaking) are highly desired
      • Those who have experience with SNAP/EBT programs are highly desired
      • Potential tasks include:
        • Making phone calls to new program enrollees to welcome them to the co-op community, offer a store tour, answer questions, introduce membership and other ways to save at Honest Weight
        • Going out into the community to talk about Double Up Food Bucks and promote HWFC in general
    • Member-Owners interested in walking the neighborhood, talking to people about HWFC and passing out informational flyers about HWFC
    • Designers or photographers interested in helping with the Coop Scoop magazine
      • Quarterly with Monthly tasks,  the Coop Scoop is a print and digital lifestyle and wellness publication created by Honest Weight on a quarterly basis. We are always seeking writers for submissions on a quarterly basis. Writers can choose from several suggested topics or suggest their own around an issue theme that must be approved by a team of editors.

Meat and Seafood Immediate Needs
  • Provide customer service and wrap meat & fish. Experience Preferred! There is major need for Saturdays from 9 AM to 6 PM! Tuesday, Wednesday, & Sunday support also needed from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM

  • Zoom Helpers for Quarterly Membership Meetings- Come be part of the MO team that provides the behind-the-scenes support for the check-in process and tech help during our Zoom membership meetings.

  • Seeking Member Owners for shifts on Tuesday 1 PM to 3 PM AND 5 PM to 8 PM, Wednesday 11 AM to 2 PM (Demos will be included on this shift), Saturday 1 PM to 4 PM (Demos will be included on this shift). Wellness background/ Experience is a plus!
Special Projects 
  • Committees need help! Pitch in on a committee to help run the store you own, visit a committee to decide whether they are right for you. More info on our committee webpage. Member-Owners receive hours for visiting committees in 2025, come see what we're up to! The Communications Committee welcomes writers for our monthly membership publication, Honest Slate.
