For
several years, we have been
laying the groundwork to
move to a new store. We have
great dreams for this future
store-- wider aisles for a
more comfortable
shopping experience, a
full-service deli, an
expanded election of Local
Sustainable Meats,
larger and better community
spaces, a teaching kitchen,
and much more. A project
this size and scope takes
money, and plenty of it. In
order for
us to do this, we need the
support of Honest Weight's
entire community, and a
significant part of the
project financing will come
from shareholder and member
equity.
Currently, less than half of
Honest Weight
shoppers are co-op
shareholders. We'd like to
convert some of these
non-member shoppers into
member owners. Unlike the
big chains that can
rely on money coming in from
the corporate office in
Austin, Texas or
Brussels, Belgium, or some
other far-off place, we need
to do this
ourselves, and for that to
happen, we need as many
people from our
community involved as
possible.
And If you join the
co-op, you aren't
just supporting the co-op,
you're supporting every
local farmer, baker,
cheesemaker, and coffee
roaster that sells
products to the co-op. And
we guarantee that the
percentage of our sales
that goes to local
producers is far greater
than what you'll find at
the big stores.
So whether joining the
co-op is
something you've thought
about doing for years, or
if it's something
that's you're just
considering now for the
first time, it's really
the
perfect time to join. It's
an exciting time to be
part of the co-op!
