The HWFC Board of Directors met on Wednesday, February 28, 2001.
General Manager's Report

The General Manager reported that a decision would be made shortly on a new cash register system.  The new system should take debit cards.  An ATM machine is being considered.  The Assistant front-end manager position has been filled, and a temporary part-time maintenance person has been hired.

A new recycling procedure is in place for the courtesy clerks. This should make for a cleaner and more orderly recycling area.  Co-op sales reached the $1 million mark on March 22. Taxes for 2000 have been filed. The General Manager recommended that the Personnel committee look into retirement plans and 401 K plans for Co-op staff.

Equitable Wage Scale
The Personnel committee has been looking at the issue of equitable salaries at the Co-op, but have not completed the task due to some lacking information.  It was proposed and passed that the committee go ahead and make recommendations to the Board based on the information currently in hand.  This will be forwarded to management who will be charged with devising an equitable wage scale.
Personnel Manual
The Personnel committee reported that the general manager would like to create and implement a new version of the personnel manual.  The present manual needs clarifications and more details.  Policies in the manual need to reflect current store practices and the bylaws.  The Board approved making specific changes to the manual in two areas:  Probationary periods and raises.  The General Manager and a Board member will create a new manual and present it to the Board for approval.
Solar Energy
Two solar energy contractors looked at energy efficiency at the Co-op.  One group’s suggestions are in; the other’s will be forthcoming.
Board Recruitment
It was noted that most members do not have a good idea of what board service entails.  A list of traits needed by board members will be developed, and previous Coop Scoop articles on this topic will be collected.
Upcoming Annual Meeting
A portion of the meeting was devoted to planning for the annual membership meeting to be held on May 5.  There will not be a vote on bylaws at the annual meeting.
Minutes
Minutes of all meetings are available at the Co-op. Minutes of the most recent meeting are posted on the bulletin board. They are also available on the Co-op's website, as password protected files. See instructions on the Board Meetings page
Upcoming Meetings

The Board was scheduled to meet on April 25, and will meet again on May 30 at 326 Ontario Street, Albany.  After the election of new Directors in May, the Board will decide on a meeting schedule for the coming months.
