Fantastic Flax and Flax:
The Super Food both focus on the
benefits of flax seed and flax oil. The
introductory material in the two books is almost identical, as Gursche
has
contributed some of the same stories and information to both books. Fantastic Flax provides a few more charts
describing the components and benefits of flax and more (very
attractive)
photographs of flax in most of its forms, while Flax: The Super Food!
condenses
the introductory material, but includes a few scientific citations at
the end.
Both books also contain
recipes. Fantastic Flax offers about two
dozen recipes for breakfasts,
baked goods, dips and dressings. It is
a good book for those who are specifically interested in incorporating
flax
seed and/or oil into their diets. As an
added bonus, Fantastic Flax also describes and illustrates the use of
ground
flax meal as a poultice and face cleanser mask!
Flax: The Super Food! Can
be seen as a vegan cookbook
masquerading as a flax cookbook. It
offers over 80 recipes using flax oil and ground flax seed. In addition to the expected breakfasts,
baked goods and dressings, there are quite a few main dish recipes. This book would b e a good one for those who
are just beginning to follow a meatless or vegan diet, as many of the
recipes
are “old standards” (Sloppy Joes, lasagna, meat balls) made with vegan
ingredients. Of course all of the
recipes also feature flax seed or oil.
Each recipe includes nutritional
information.
